Microsoft’s Windows Phone Mango is just out the door to manufacturers and now new information on its successor, Windows Phone Tango, are beginning to leak. Back in June, a report from the supply side suggested that Microsoft was already signing licensing agreements for Tango and now insider sources reveal that the update may be geared towards low-priced handsets.

company announced that its development team has officially signed off on the final build of Mango for release to manufacturing. This marks the end of development for the platform, which is now in carrier testing. From this point forward, what remains to be done is optimizing the code for Mango handset manufacturer and carrier partners.

Microsoft COO Kevin Turner during his presentation at the Worldwide Partners Conference on Wednesday set out ambitious plans both for Microsoft's retail stores and for Windows Phones. With just 11 stores open or near opening today, Microsoft plans to "accelerate" and add 75 more stores through the next two to three years. Some of these will be outside the US, he said.

Today Microsoft posted on their developer blog about a new tool to make porting apps from Android devices to Windows Phone much easier. Much like what Microsoft did recently for iOS, the API tool is said to be like a translating dictionary for people that are native Android coders, and will help them to understand the Windows Phone 7 environment.

Microsoft said it was shutting down its My Phone service for Windows Mobile 6.x phone users starting in August. The company wants to migrate existing customers over to their Windows Live SkyDrive Service instead. Microsoft believes that cloud-based SkyDrive is is the best way to continue providing its customers with archiving services.
