Android 2.3.x Gingerbread is being loaded on more and more devices that arrive on shelves with Google's mobile operating system on board.

Microsoft announced on Wednesday that it has signed a cross-licensing agreement with Samsung. As a result, will pay Microsoft royalties for its Android-powered smartphones and tablets. Additionally, Microsoft said the two firms will continue to cooperate on the Windows Phone operating system.

During the IDF opening keynote, one of the highlights was the joint Intel/Google announcement that Intel-powered Android phones prototypes already exist, and that Google is committed to “do its best” to optimize for Intel’s architecture. While the statement itself was fairly blend, Andy Rubin did show a physical prototype and apparently internal developers do have working prototypes.

According to a “trusted source” over at ThisIsMyNext, the next version of Android could be named — wait for it — JELLY BEAN.

RadiumOne has launched a new app that is on the Android Market and available for the iPhone as well called PingMe. The app allows users to end that expensive text messaging plan that most of us have and go with an app that allows for direct real time chatting and sharing of photos without charges from your carrier. The catch, as with all other apps like this, is that the people you want to chat with need to have PingMe installed as well.

Google has released the latest version specific device share details and finally we see device with FroYo and Gingerbread taking a major share of total Android devices. Honeycomb is still struggling at just 1.4% of total Android devices and with no cheap Honeycomb tablets in sight as of now [but planned], I don’t see any respite.

Evernote has acquired popular image annotation application Skitch and launched Skitch Android application. This app lets you Capture, Annotate and Share images with your friends or simply paint something on a blank canvas and share it easily.
Teaser videos are not the only things Samsung is using to hype their Unpacked event. They’ve now released an Unpacked application on the Android Market that gives event info like schedule, location, time as well as a direct YouTube link to watch the teaser.
