Toshiba kicked off CEATEC 2011 with a highly entertaining (there were pretty ladies) press conference where it officially announced to Japan the Toshiba Regza AT700 - "the world's thinnest and lightest tablet".

In case you felt Toshiba’s last tablet offering was a little too.. uh — big boned for ya — they’re at it again this time with smaller Thrive 7-inch in both 16GB and 32GB versions. The biggest appeal with the original 10-inch Thrive was its full sized USB and HDMI ports as well as SD card slot. The 7-incher continues the tradition but this time with mini/micro versions of each.

It will probably take a few more months until Japan’s five major cell phone makers really start shipping smartphones to the US and other regions, but in their home market, all signs point to an Android future.

Earlier today, Samsung announced its Galaxy Tab 7.7 as the world’s thinnest Android tablet (only 7.9mm in thickness). Well, it’s not anymore now, as Toshiba has also introduced a new tablet – the AT200, which is only 7.7mm thin.

Cameras on phones have come a long way since they were first introduced; from being able to capture photos in VGA to a whopping 8 megapixels that we are starting to see in some of the newer smartphones today. It features an 11.6″ 1366 x 768 multi-touch display with auto-adjust brightness which they call “Adaptive Display”.

It seems that Japan is getting all the cool and rather innovative phones and with Toshiba’s REGZA Phone IS11T it doesn’t look like the buck is going to stop there. The Toshiba REGZA Phone IS11T will be running on a 1GHz Snapdragon MSN8655 CPU, Android’s Gingerbread 2.3, a 1Seg TV Tuner, GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, DLNA, a 8Mpix Camera and a 4” (854×480) screen.

Toshiba just fired its own salvo in the pixel density wars at SID 2011. The company is showing off a range of LCDs for cellphones that top out at an almost imperceptibly fine 367ppi on its 4-inch HD (720 x 1280) model. Beyond just cramming more red, green, and blue dots in each inch, these panels also top the bar-setting Retina Display in the contrast department with an impressive 1,500:1 ratio.

Toshiba has introduces a new kind of SD Card today with the “Write Once”, a normal 1GB SD Card with a prevention system that can let you write data but never let you erase them!
