Nokia World is next week. It is during that event that we’ll finally see Nokia’s first Windows Phones. However, that obviously doesn’t stop people from leaking stuff here and there, and we’re understandably very happy about that.

Microsoft announced on Wednesday that it has signed a cross-licensing agreement with Samsung. As a result, will pay Microsoft royalties for its Android-powered smartphones and tablets. Additionally, Microsoft said the two firms will continue to cooperate on the Windows Phone operating system.

Mozilla has released its Firefox 7 browser for the Android platform. This latest version of Firefox makes improvements to the behavior of the copy-and-paste function; adds built-in language detection; and makes the WebSockets API available to developers. Firefox 7 for Android is a free download.

With Samsung churning out Android and more recently Windows-based tablets, you’d expect the Korean giant to do something similar with their in-house operating system. However, it turns out Samsung does not have any plans to release a tablet with the bada OS. Or at least, in the near future.

During the IDF opening keynote, one of the highlights was the joint Intel/Google announcement that Intel-powered Android phones prototypes already exist, and that Google is committed to “do its best” to optimize for Intel’s architecture. While the statement itself was fairly blend, Andy Rubin did show a physical prototype and apparently internal developers do have working prototypes.

With the Google acquiring Motorola’s cellphone division, it’s not surprising that other Android handset makers may be a bit cautious over their future. Sure, for now it looks like operations as per usual, but what about the future? While there’s no indication that Google has plans to close off Android to other manufacturers, it still remains a possibility regardless how small it may seem, which is why it’s not surprising that HTC has announced their plans to buy a mobile OS to call their own.
